BRIAN HONG B.Sc. BDS (Rand)

Principal Dentist

Brian originates from Johannesburg, South Africa, where he graduated with a B.Sc.degree in Microbiology in 1978 and a BDS degree in 1983 from the University of the Witwatersrand. He successfully owned and ran his own practices in Johannesburg for 16 years before moving to the UK in August 1999.

Since then, he worked in a predominantly private dental practice in West Sussex, before acquiring Cornerways in 2004. He has special interests in the fields of Prosthodontics including restorations on implants, Aesthetic Dentistry, Orthodontics and Occlusion and its role in headache resolution.

Brian is a very keen, competitive golfer and is a member at Mid Sussex Golf Club. 

MARCO CARUGATI Dip.Dent (Pisa)

Special interest in Orthodontics and Endodontics

Marco was born on the island of Elba, Italy. He graduated with a degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics from the University of Pisa, School of Dentistry in November 1997. Marco qualified as an Orthodonist from the Centro Stu e Ricerche di Ortodonzia La Spezia in March 2004. In addition he has completed several post graduate courses covering topics such as occlusion, endodontics and implantology. He has a special interest in endodontics as well but also like to keep his hand in in general dentistry wherever he can.

At present, he consults in various practices in Kent and Sussex as well as in practices in Pisa and Milan.

Recently, he has started teaching and lecturing at King’s College Dental Hospital in London.

His interests include travelling, music, skiing and computing.

HENNIE VAN JAARSVELD B.Ch.D, M.Ch.D (Pret)

Specialist Periodontist with a special interest in Implantology and Oral Medicine

Hennie was born in Rustenburg, South Africa. He matriculated from Bergsig High School in 1973 as Head Boy and also achieved provincial colours in Athletics.

He qualified with his undergraduate degree from the University of Pretoria in 1979 and went on to complete his post graduate degree (with honours) in Oral Medicine and Periodontics in 1985 at the same university.

Since 1985 he was in private practice in Pretoria and at the same time lectured part time at the University of Pretoria. Since 1996 he has worked in the UK and Tanzania as a Specialist in Periodontics. In 2005 he was appointed Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand.

He has lectured all over the world on Periodontal topics and has been the external examiner to the University of the Witwatersrand from 2001 to 2006.

Hennie is registered as a Specialist Periodontist with the General Dental Council.

He has attended several post graduate training courses in various parts of the world covering subjects such as implants, periodontology, laser surgery, osseo-distraction, and aesthetic surgery.

Hennie is a huge rugby fan, particularly South African test rugby, and took great delight in South Africa winning the Rugby World Cup in 1995 and more recently in 2007.

Hennie’s hobby is breeding miniature horses and has written several articles for the Miniature Horse Breeders Annual Magazine.

Hennie is married and has two sons and two daughters ranging in age from 15 to 27.

NICKY GOUGH CEB Dip Dental Hygiene

Dental Hygienist

Nicky was born and raised in the Worthing area. She started dental nursing as a temporary job in 1991 after having extensive knee surgery.  It was a job she absolutely loved and decided to take it to the next level by studying Dental Hygiene at Kings College Hospital, London. Nicky qualified in 1996 with several awards, including Highest Achiever in pre clinical examination, Highest Achiever in ‘Prize’ Hygiene examination and Hygienist Gold award for highest achiever in final practical and written examination. She has been associated with Cornerways for some 11 years now.

Nicky also helps her husband, Steve, to run his dental servicing business. They have a son and a daughter and are kept very busy by a golden retriever named Cassie.

Nicky enjoys music, radio, walking the dog, cycling, swimming and socialising.

LINDA COOPER RDN

Dental Chairside Assistant

Before joining Cornerways in June 2001, Linda had spent time working at Royal Mail and was a Services Manager at Somerfield stores. She started her NVQ Level 3 in Oral Health Care at Northbrook College, Worthing, in September 2005 and qualified in June 2007. She has a special interest in the surgical aspects of implant dentistry and periodontics.

Linda is married and has a daughter a son. She also shares her home with 2 retired greyhounds, Henry and Joan.

Linda has been involved in Girl Guiding for 16 years and has recently been appointed as a Young Leader Adviser.

She enjoys the adrenaline rush of abseiling, high rope climbing, paragliding as well as the more sedate yoga, pilates and t’ai chi.

MAGGIE WOOD

Receptionist

Before coming to Cornerways in 1992, Maggie was employed as a Personal Secretary to the Marketing Manager of an engineering company. She has completed a 2 year course in Business and Secretarial studies. She has taken and passed, with merit, 5 Royal Society of Arts exams plus Pitman exams.

Maggie is married and has two children as well as 3 grandchildren.

Her interests include cooking, yoga, keeping fit, dancing, London theatre and racing. 

JENNY HONG H.Dip. Pharm.

Practice Manager

Jenny qualified with a diploma in Pharmacy from the Witwatersrand Technikon in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1981. Jenny sees to the day to day administrative aspects of the practice. In addition, she also holds a qualification as a reflexologist from South Downs College and has been providing reflexology sessions to patients here at Cornerways.

Jenny is a very keen, competitive tennis player and regularly represents her club.

Jenny is married to Brian and they have a daughter and a son.
